‘T-WAVE ALTERNANS AS SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH STRATIFIER’

Abstract: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) remains a major cause of mortality in industrialized countries, and in order to reduce its incidence, methods allowing acute patient stratification in terms of risk have been intensively scrutinized and developed. Among the different signal processing based techniques, T-wave alternans (TWA) is a subject of great interest since it has been shown to be an informative risk stratifier for SDC. This phenomenon is found on the surface electrocardiogram as changes in amplitude, waveform, and duration of the repolarization segment occurring on an every-other-beat bases. This talk introduces the state of the art in TWA computational techniques research and also presents some innovative approaches that are currently being developed by the presenter and his research group.
