Course specification
Course is active from 01.10.2007.. -To provide students knowledge about the equilibrium and dynamic processes in the heterogeneous multicomponent system on the surface of interacting phases -To develop students the ability to actively use modern experimental, numerical and physico-chemical methods -To develop students the ability to constantly expand and search for new knowledge in a complex interdisciplinary field of Environmental Engineering - To develop students skills in communication, written and oral presentations of project tasks At the end of the course, students should be able to: - Explain distribution of pollutants between different environmental media based on their physico-chemical characteristics, -Evaluate analytical results by one of the statistical softwares (eg Excel), - Make written report on the experimental results of laboratory processes - Write a seminar work and orally present the results using the Prezi or Power Point software Chemical thermodynamics and kinetics. The complex interactions between soil, water, air and biosphere. Precipitation and dissolution. Persistence and degradation processes in the environment. Physico-chemical processes at interfaces. Interaction between solid and liquid phases, solid and gaseous and liquid and gaseous phases. Concepts of contamination of the hydrosphere and the processes of physico-chemical treatment. New materials and nanomolecules. Molecular interactions. Photochemical processes. Rate and kinetics of complex reactions. Principles of colloidal systems. Physico-chemical processes in the function of Environmental Engineering. Lectures. Laboratory exercises. During the semester, students are required to attend lectures and exercises, and to present experimental results of laboratory exercises in the form of reports. After successfully completed pre-exam requirements, students take to the final exam consisting of two parts: written and oral. The written exam can be taken in the form of two tests.
