The knowledge about architecture and settlement development in the context of medieval civilization. Method of application specific creative ideas and construction techniques in contemporary architectural design and urban planning Basic introduction to the types of structures, structural components, construction techniques and stylistic features in the Middle Ages. Knowledge of principles and processes of settlement in Europe from the fifth to the fifteenth century, and the types of settlements whose parts are stored in the tissue of modern cities, towns and villages. Religious context of architecture and settlement; Medieval society, culture, aesthetics and their influence on the architectural programmes and the settlement concept; Early Christian and Byzantine architecture and its impact; Development of medieval architecture in Western Europe (pre-Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic architecture); Marginal areas of Europe and their impact on the architecture and urban planning; profane architecture and fortifications; The genesis and development of medieval settlement; Typology of urban elements. Lectures. Consultations. Two positively graded colloquiums during the semester; oral examination.
