Course specification
Course is active from 01.10.2010.. Aim is to train students for development of digital archives and content management systems. Basic knowledge on tools and technics for development of digital archives and content management systems. A student is competent to implement and maintenance digital archives and content management systems. Digital archives: terminology, features. Document models: simple, structured, multi-lingual, multi-media. Models of document collections: centralized, distributed. Document filing. Searching document collections: searching models, query languages, indices, user interaction, implementation. Metadata and acquisition in distributed collections. Collaboration of users in document formation. Standards in the field of digital archives and document control. Teaching methods include: Lectures, computer practice, homework assignments, and consultations. During the lectures the content of the course is presented using the necessary didactic tools while student active participation is encouraged. The practical aspect of the course is covered at computer practice classes through assignments which students do independently or with the help of teaching assistants as well as through homework assignments (obligatory or optional). A student is expected to demonstrate the ability of independent task solving or understanding of the solution.
