Mastering the fundamental principles of digital image processing; Understanding of modern methods for image enhancement, restoration, compression, morphological processing and segmentation. Understanding and practical implementation of basic image processing methods. Acquiring capability to implement image processing algorithms, in order to enhance image for the specific application, or for the purpose of noise and degradation removal from the image. Ability to solve simpler problems. Introduction. Concept of image signal and difference between image and digital image. Image enhancement in spatial and frequency domain. Image restoration. Color image processing. Image compression. Morphological image compressing. Image segmentation. Object detection. Lectures. Consultations and discussions. Computer laboratory exercises. Numerical simulations of simpler image processing algorithms. Written assignment on selected topic from digital image processing. Course is attended through standard teaching forms and includes obligatory attendance at lectures and computer laboratory exercises.
