Course specification
Course is active from 24.07.2017.. The aim of the subject is to to develop knowledge of basic concepts of critical mission software systems applied in power grids. Introduction to SCADA concept. Real-time control in critical infrastructure systems. Real world examples. The outcome of the subject is to enable students to understand basic concepts and design of SCADA systems applied in power grids, as well as in other mission critical applications. Students should develop ability to design and realize simple dedicated computer structures. Introduction to the real time systems and their classification. Real time operating systems. Real time communication infrastructure. Real time clock handling. Protocols for time synchronization. Software techniques for synchronization and cooperation of distributed program components. Architecture and functionality of SCADA systems. Process IO and data processing. SCADA user interface and history. SCADA program model of controlled system and implementation of control procedure. Continual and batch control over industrial processes. Methods for verification and testing real time systems. Integration with decision support systems. Development of components and applications of so-called "Scholar SCADA”, simplified but functional SCADA system designed for educational purposes. Examples of power grid and railway traffic applications. Lectures; Computer Practice; Consultations.
