Understanding of the components that make up the field of database administration. During this course, students gain the skills to install, configure the database system and database administration skills. Database administration tasks. Installing and updating database software. Standards and procedures. Physical database design. Integrity and data security. Backup and database recovery. Performance management. Database administration tools for selected database systems - MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. Teaching methods include: Lectures, computer exercises, homework assignments and consultations. In lectures, by using the necessary didactic means, the content of the subject is exposed and the active participation of students is raised by asking questions. The practical aspect of the course is covered at laboratory practice classes through assignments which students do independently or with the help of teaching assistants. A student is expected to demonstrate the ability of independent task solving or understanding of the solution. During the consultations, students are given additional explanations of the contents of the lectures and exercises. The assessment of the exam is based on the success of the laboratory exercises and the oral exam.
