Course is active from 24.07.2017.. Students learn about the basics of computer networks and their application in infrastructure systems. The focus is set on the fundamental Internet protocols and technologies. Knowledge about basic notions, standards and network technologies present in the contemporary infrastructure systems. Ability to design and realize simple network applications. Introduction to the basics of computer networks and their applications in infrastructure systems. Basic notions and definitions (structure of computer network, types and topologies, commutation and multiplexing). Internet (architecture and services). Open system architecture, ISO OSI reference standard and protocols. Physical and Data Link layers (RS standards, UART and LAN). Flow and error control. Identification and routing. Internet protocols. Application layer (http, e-mail, DNS). Intranet technology (hub, switch, VPN router, VLAN). Wireless networks. Protection of Internet (data encryption and firewalls). Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Network programming. Examples of network applications in infrastructure systems.
