Application of basic, theoretical methodological, scientific-professional and expert-applied knowledge and methods for solving specific problems within the selected area. Within this part of the doctoral dissertation, a student studies the problem, its structure and complexity, and, on the basis of the conducted analysis, concludes the possible ways of solving it. By studying literature students are introduced to methods that are designed for creative solution of new tasks and engineering practice. The goal of student activities in this part of the research is to gain the necessary experience through solving complex problems and tasks and recognizing the possibilities for applying previously acquired knowledge in practice.

Training students to independently apply previously acquired knowledge from different areas they have previously studied, to examine the structure of the given problem and its systematic analysis in order to conclude on possible directions of its resolution. Through self-use of literature, students expand knowledge from the chosen field and study various methods and papers related to similar issues. In this way, students develop the ability to conduct analysis and identify problems within the given topic. Practical application of acquired knowledge from different fields among students, develops the ability to see the place and role of engineers in the selected area, and the need for cooperation with other professions and teamwork.

The content of the course is formed individually in accordance with the needs of making a concrete doctoral dissertation, its complexity and structure. The student studies the professional literature, doctoral dissertations of students dealing with similar topics in order to find a solution of a specific task defined by the doctoral dissertation assignment.

In the scope of the study research work, the student conducts consultations with a mentor and, if necessary, with other teachers dealing with issues related to the topic of work itself. Within the given subject, the student also performs certain measurements, tests, counts, surveys and other research, statistical data processing, if this is stipulated by the doctoral dissertation task. The student publishes key results in renowned world magazines (at least one).
