Course specification
Course is active from 26.09.2012.. Acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills in problematic of drinking water treatment process and drinking water treatment plant design. Understanding the importance and role of obtaining hygienic and quality drinking water in the total water supply chain. Understanding and knowledge of the drinking water treatment process and method of achieving required drinking water quality by designing of appropriate water treatment process and water treatment plant. Theoretical study: Characteristics and water quality and standards for drinking water quality. The choice of drinking water unit treatment processes, alternatives of processing scheme (technology) for water treatment. The conceptual solution of water treatment process and water treatment plant. Elements of the project of the process and plant. The design phase of the water treatment: aeration and air stripping, mixing, coagulation and flocculation, clarification, filtration (filters with granular media), membrane separation, oxidation and disinfection, lime softening, ion exchange, processes on activated carbon, handling of chemicals, instrumentation and process control. Environmental aspect: wastes from water treatment process, their treatment and disposal. Operator training and the start of the installation. Safety of the plant. Practical lessons: Demonstration of a design phase: predesign of wastewater treatment process, preparation of the conceptual design of process line (technology) for wastewater treatment and wastewater treatment plant; preparation of facilities design. Lectures and exercises (interactive work in the simulation of drinking water treatment process design and drinking water treatment plant design).
