Course specification
Course is active from 26.09.2012.. Acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills in problematic of wastewater treatment process and wastewater treatment plant design. Knowledge of wastewater characteristics. Understanding of wastewater treatment process and method of achieving required level of wastewater purification (emission standard) by designing of appropriate wastewater treatment process and wastewater treatment plant. Theoretical study: Origin of wastewater. Characterization of wastewater. Emission standards for wastewater. Analysis and selection of wastewater flow and loading elements. The choice of wastewater treatment unit processes, alternatives of processing scheme (technology) for wastewater treatment. The conceptual solution of wastewater treatment process and wastewater treatment plant. The design phase of the wastewater treatment: mechanical methods of treatment; chemical treatment processes; biological treatment (processes with suspended microflora; processes with immobilized microflora; anaerobic processes); advanced treatment processes, disinfection. Wastes from wastewater treatment process, their treatment and disposal. Aspects of plant operation (process control and management; odor control, energy efficiency). Practical lessons: Demonstration of a design phase: predesign of wastewater treatment process, preparation of the conceptual design of process line (technology) for wastewater treatment and wastewater treatment plant; preparation of facilities design. Lectures and exercises (interactive work - simulation of wastewater treatment process and wastewater treatment plant design).
