Course is active from 19.07.2017.. Acquiring of basic knowledge on the most common switching and protective devices in electrical engineering and modern electrical drives. Introduction to the operational principles of switching and protective elements. Definition of characteristic values for the appropriate selection and dimensioning. Knowledge on the operational principle of the most common switching and protective devices in electrical engineering and modern electrical drives. Based on the acquired knowledge students will be capable of the selection, calculation and dimensioning of important values for switching and protective equipment in electrical drives and switchgear facilities. Definitions and the classification of switching and protection devices. The classification according to the rated voltage, function, current breaking system and the protection function. Basic operational principles. Calculation of the rated operational currents, as well as fault currents including all of their characteristic values. Switching and protective devices in electrical drives, transformer and generator protection. System protection and anti-islanding protection in distributed energy sources. Communication subsystems and the connection of control devices. Lectures, auditory and laboratory exercises.
