Course specification
Course is active from 23.10.2012.. The aim of this course is to present the basic content of information technologies and computing. In that sense, the basic concepts of computer architecture, software, organization and services provided by computer networks, understanding new technologies that serve to provide Internet services, primarily the world wide web and Email will be discused. Acquiring knowledge and skills in using modern software solutions for: writing and formatting textual documents, creating vector graphics, creating presentations and executing tabular calculations. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have acquired the knowledge necessary for the application of modern software and computer systems. He will improve the knowledge in the use of modern graphic applications, computer networks and the use of the Internet service with special emphasis on elements of creativity and innovation. The student will have developed skills in using modern software solutions for creating and processing texts; making a presentation; acquired the necessary knowledge related to input, processing – tabular calculations, as well as methods of numerical and graphical representation of data. He will have improved the practical knowledge on the functioning of the Internet and Internet services, as well as the skills of using Internet services for business purposes. The student will have improved the knowledge about software packages for general purposes, as well as their application to solve specific problems from the graphic engineering and design. Theoretical part: Informatics; Information system; The emergence and development of disciplines in the field of informatics and its application in graphic engineering and design (GRID); Basic concepts, concepts and problems related to computer systems; Review of the development of ideas and technological inventions through history; Numeral systems and data; Computer system; Hardware; Software; Computer networks; Internet. The computer system hardware is provided through a detailed presentation and familiarization with the operation of the computer and its basic components: CPU, Memory, Memory Devices, Peripherals (special emphasis on scanners, monitors, printers, plotters, etc. Particular emphasis is placed on performance analysis and needs assessment in hardware procurement, procurement errors, technological obsolescence, with emphasis on the specific needs of GRID. The software of the computer system is studied through the presentation: Software divisions; System software; Operating Systems – OS Windows, Classification of OS; Application programs - with special emphasis on application programs in the field of graphic engineering and design (Software tools for: word processing, drawing, for cross-calculations, creation of presentations, etc.); Protection and security of computer systems; Compatibility problem; Procurement and maintenance of software. Computer Networks: The concept and basics of computer networks, Reasons for networking, Division of computer networks, Basics of networking equipment. Internet: Internet basics and history, Internet addressing, Internet access, Internet services (www, Email, ftp, etc.), Internet search, Business applications Internet technologies - with special emphasis on programs for application in GRID area; Basics of electronic business. Practical part: Working in a computer classroom with appropriate software tools. First of all, students knowledge and skills in working with MS Windows OS and basic MS Office applications are check Teaching is done through modern didactic means and methods, interactively in the form of lectures and computer exercises. The lectures present the theoretical part of the material accompanied by examples and simulations of the solutions for easier understanding of the subject matter. Computer exercises are organized in a way that supplements the skills of graphic technologies. In addition to lectures and exercises, consultations are held regularly.
