Course specification
Course is active from 10.11.2012.. Training students for oral and written professional communication. During the course, the students should master "soft" skills for efficient and successful professional communication. The students should also acquire the needed skills for academic writing and presentation. The course should also enable the students for research and adequate referencing of scientific and professional literature with the aim of strengthening the point they wish to convey. Upon successful completion of the course, the engineering student has obtained the written and oral communication skills relevant for his profession, on Serbian and English language. The student has learned to communicate clearly and concisely, as well as to attest the message he or she wishes to convey by citing adequate scientific and professional literature. The students have acquired the skills needed for academic writing and presentations and learned essential guidelines for writing the bachelors theses. Finally, the student is trained for professional communication via different communications channels (email, telephone,...). Structure and content of seminar paper, bachelor's thesis, master's theses, and scientific paper; Spelling and grammar for Serbian and English language; Visual communication (the overall look of the document, presenting content on images and tables); Presenting; Text editing tools (MS Word and LaTeX); Professional correspondence (writing resumes and reports; team communication; communication via different channels: email, telephone, teleconference ); Elements of scientific research (searching scientific literature, paper publishing process, writing a review and replying to a received review, citing technical and scientific literature, evaluating scientific journals and conferences) During the lectures, students are given guidelines on how to write and give oral presentations. The main focus of the subject is a paper that the students should write and orally present. As an additional exercise, the student is assigned the paper written by his or her colleagues to review. Also, the student is tasked with writing a CV. The grade is formed based on points obtained by writing and presenting the paper, as well as reviewing and writing the CV. The final part of the exam is an oral exam.
