Acquiring basic knowledge necessary for designing and application of hydraulic turbines. Designing, application, exploitation and maintenance of hydraulic turbines. Definition and classification of hydraulic turbines impulse and reaction turbines. Basic performance parameters of hydraulic turbines. Theoretical background of hydraulic turbines operation: flow kinematics in hydraulic turbines runners, Euler`s equation for hydraulic turbines. Affinity laws. Cavitation in hydraulic turbines. Speed control, power output control. Experimental determination of performance characteristics, model testing. Calculation and design of turbine runners. Calculation and design of hydraulic stator components. Novelties in theory and practice of hydraulic turbines. Lectures: combination of modern (presentations, simulations) and classic (chalk and blackboard, physical models)
Numerical practice: (10 weeks): numerical and graphical problems, calculation of flow components of hydraulic turbines..
Laboratory practice (5 weeks). experimental determination of performance characteristics of Kaplan and Francis turbine on laboratory test stands.
