Subject: Introduction to digital systems design
(17 -
E227A) Basic Information
Course specification
Course is active from 01.10.2005.. Knowledge about the basics of digital system design. Knowledge about the basic techniques for designing and testing digital systems. The acquired knowledge provides the basis for understanding engineering courses which will follow. Course covers digital systems design, it starts with digital logic basics and real logic families, it continues with combinational logic, sequential networks, finite state machines, memories... During the work with VHDL language, students are learning how to design digital systems in programmable logic. Through the multiple lab examples complexity of the system reaches the level of the elementary Von Neumann processor. Finally examples with processor solving basic computational tasks are accomplished on the simulation and synthesis level.
Lectures, Tutorials. Computer practice. Consultations. Students attend lectures, auditory practice and laboratory practice classes. Each laboratory practice is graded. There is a midterm exam which consists of a test which checks students’ theoretical knowledge and practical tasks on the computer.
