Course specification
Course is active from 21.08.2017.. To gain the knowledge in design of integrated circuits used in communication systems. To get knowledge and ability to combine theory and RF and analog integrated circuits design concepts while designing basic communication blocks. -to gain knowledge about the basic performance parameters and problems in communication systems - to acquire ability to design basic building blocks in communication systems (power amplifiers, oscillators, filters, comparators, voltage regulators, frequency synthesizers ...). - to gain knowledge about various technique that can be used to improve performance of some communication blocks - to acquire ability to optimize integrated circuits performance with respect to different constraints. Power amplifiers (fundamentals, linearity, efficiency, class A, B, AB, C, D, E and F, basic linearization techniques). Oscillators (performance parameters and basic principles, amplitude and frequency stability. waveform distortion, phase noise, ring oscillators, relaxation oscillators, LC oscillators, negative-gm oscillators, voltage-controlled oscillators). Supply and temperature independent integrated voltage references (principle of operation, bipolar and CMOS technology realization) Integrated voltage regulators (Zener diode voltage regulators, low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulators). Filters (filter characteristics and transfer function, filter response approximation, passive circuits synthesis, active filters realization: gm-C, RC-OP and SC filters, cascade realization). Comparators (specifications and performance parameters, input offset and noise, hysteresis, multi-stage comparators). Frequency synthesizers and phase-locked loops (basic principles and architecture, voltage controlled oscillator, frequency divider, phase detector, loop filter, phase noise and jitter). Lectures; EDA tools laboratory exercises; Consultations. After completion of laboratory exercises students will work on a project, that finished contributes to the final mark with 40% maximum.
