Introducing students of technical profession to the basic principles and laws of environmental chemistry. Acquiring basic knowledge of general, inorganic and organic chemistry enables understanding of all processes and phenomena of chemical reactions occurring in the field of engineering sciences. Natural sciences and chemistry. Matter, mass and energy. International SI system. The types of substances. Characterization of the pure substances. Classification of the pure substances. Chemical elements and compounds. Atom and chemical element. Chemical symbols, formulas and equations. Relative atomic and molecular mass. Mole, molar mass and molar volume. Periodic system of elements. Basic chemical laws. Structure of pure substances.Structure of atoms. Periodicity of the element properties in PT. Structure of molecules. Chemical bond. Oxidation and reduction. Types and characteristics of inorganic compounds. Dispersed systems. Solutions. Properties of diluted solutions. Chemical kinetic. Chemical equilibrium. Electrolyte dissociation. Dissociation of water. pH value. Equilibrium of electrolyte solutions. Methods of neutralization. Puffers. Hydrolysis. Energy changes in chemical reactions. Electrochemistry. Lectures. Laboratory and Computing Practice. Consultations – individual and group. During semester students are required to attend lectures, computing and laboratory practice. After successfully realized examination prerequisites, students take the final exam in written form, which consists of computational and theoretical part. Computational part of the final exam can be quarterly taken through the two colloquiums.
