Course specification
Course is active from 01.10.2009.. Acquiring knowledge about the potentials of using renewable energy sources. Fundamental knowledge of technologies for the use of renewable energy sources. Achieving scientific abilities to independently propose the introduction of renewable energy technologies and their integration into the existing energy system. Gaining creative abilities with the aim of applying new technologies using renewable energy sources, whose effects lead to lower energy costs and better quality of environment. The students will use gained knowledge in further education and future engineering practice. The importance of the energy sector and the use of renewable energy sources. Ways and technologies for the use of biomass in energy purposes. Solar energy: resources, solar technologies (PV technologies, solar thermal technology), solar systems (PV independent and economical interactive systems, distribution and central reception systems). Hydroenergy: resources, exploitation of water power, estimation of available energy, impulse and reaction turbines, hydroelectric power plants as part of EES, small hydropower plant. Wind energy: resources, wind power, wind machines (VAWT and HAWT), wind-based systems (standalone and interactive), technical problems and solutions. Geothermal energy: types of geothermal resources, resources, technologies and systems for exploitation of them (direct and indirect use), heat pumps, environmental impacts. Energy storage. Examples of techno-economic validation of each processed technology. Lectures, exercises, consultations. The lectures provide a theoretical part of the materials with the use of modern equipment and information and communication technologies. The exercises are processed through examples of materials that are theoretically processed in lectures. In addition to lectures, consultations are also held regularly.
